American Robin Nest – First glimpse of the hatchlings!

American Robin Nest – First glimpse of the hatchlings!

May 18, 2023 Elizabeth

In mid-April there was a lot of stuff happening in our personal lives and we failed to notice that a robin family was building their nest on top of our outdoor light. By the time we noticed, it was April 25th and the nest was already finished. So, we are letting her fledge these little ones and then we are going to try to encourage her to move along to a new spot!

We have been busy and the pair of robins have been very protective of their nest so we never got any pics with the eggs unfortunately. But, today, she flew off the nest finally when Steve was doing some yard cleanup and I was able to get a ladder out and snap a pic. I expected eggs but was surprised with hatchlings!

Within minutes of walking away with my ladder, mama robin was back and checking on her little hatchlings. Here’s a zoomed in close up. She’s taking good care of them!

Mama Robin is back 3 minutes later!
