This winter I joined a bunch of different backyard birdwatching groups on Facebook and I’ve seen people all throughout the South talking about sick Pine Siskins on their feeders. There were huge salmonella outbreaks and folks had to take their feeders in for 2 weeks or longer to help prevent the spread of the disease. I really wasn’t familiar with Pine Siskins before seeing all of those pictures. It wasn’t a bird that I was used to seeing on our feeder here. So, imagine my surprise when today the Bird Photo Booth platform feeder cam captured these birds I recognized as Pine Siskin! There was a bunch of them. This was also the most birds ever captured on Bird Photo Booth to date. 8 total birds.
From reading in my field guides it looks like I am just in the migratory path so I don’t think they’ll be sticking around. These live year round and breed in Northern Michigan and Canada. At least these guys look healthy! I’m curious how many days they’ll stick around.
