More dog trouble – My rescued basset hound, Duke (age 9) seems to have vertigo. We thought he had a stroke (he still might). At 3:30 am today, he woke us up stumbling down the hall and running into walls. After a day at the vet, he’s home and resting now. The vet thinks it is vertigo. He still is having trouble walking and he’s very nauseated and doesn’t want to eat. We are going to hope to see some small improvements in the next few days but it may take him 3 weeks or more to recover and he may end up with a head tilt for his lifetime. It’s so hard because he doesn’t know what’s happening. The saddest part is that this guy just goes CRAZY for belly rubs. His favorite part of the day is rolling over on his back and getting belly rubs. It seems that when he tries to do that now, it changes the pressure in the ear and it totally freaks him out. He’s snoring on the floor beside me now and I have him boxed in with laundry baskets (see all of this laundry I never put away serves a purpose!). Anyways, send him some long dog love. I just love this little guy and spent half the day just crying my eyes out. I’m still really worried about him, but trying to feel more hopeful.
Updated: It WAS vertigo and he recovered after a few weeks.
