5 Weird Recent Sightings

May 27, 2024 Elizabeth

Sometimes we just have to document some of the weird and unusual things we see! This is a group of such items from the month of May.

#1 – We saw chipmunks! Yikes! Chipmunks are destructive and luckily we haven’t really had a problem with these guys. We actually were at a neighborhood potluck and people were talking about these and we said that we’d only ever seen one. Then, the next day we spotted 2 playing in the woods near our propane tank. I was able to snap a picture of this one. So, we are on the lookout for them to be coming in to the seed area soon. We don’t want them to get into our shed or pole barn.

#2 – These toad stools popped up in like less than an hour. Steve had mowed and then we were outside walking around the yard and these were there in the freshly mowed grass. Definitely not there during mowing.

#3 – Steve opened up the cover on our propane tank just to check it out and see what our levels were at. We happened to catch this very beginning moment for a wasp nest. Sort of interesting. This one was removed. The propane guy likes us to keep this zone free from critters and it’s not the best location for a wasp nest.

#4 – Steve spotted this moth but it was in a terrible place to photograph behind a utility access near our foundation. We were able to get the tape measure in next to it to see how big and it was just about 2″ from tip of mouth to tip of wing. That’s a pretty big moth! I’m not sure of the species, if you know, drop it in the comments!

#5 – This was also seen under the propane tank cover. We spotted a colony of ants on the go. They are moving these things that look like white dots. Are they larvae, eggs, or food? Uncertain. Why do they end up way up here on the propane tank? No idea. Very strange. It’s a little hard to see in the image below, so here’s a video for those that don’t mind a little creepy crawly.
