So. Many. Toads.

So. Many. Toads.

May 21, 2024 Elizabeth

It’s been a good year for toads. As it starts getting hotter & drier most years they move on, so not sure how much longer they’ll be here. So, we had to head out in the last couple weeks on a toad hunt. Here’s some of our favorite photos.

First up is the one we call “Bony Back” (to the left). He’s a little darker in color and sort of skinny in the middle.

Steve saw this little guy in the woods and caught a picture and a video of him with his little hand up against a stick as he prepared to push off and hop away from danger!

Steve took a few pictures of this toad in the forest and he was surprisingly hard to spot in some of the images. Can you see the toad here immediately? Swipe to the next image to see where it is if you miss him.

Then, last but definitely not least, it’s our current porch toad. He’s an impressive speciment. He’s fairly aggressive. If we get too close to him, he immediately puffs up and puts on a show. I’ve had to move him once (so he didn’t get hit by cars in the driveway) and he peed all over me. He’s pretty photogenic because he has a stately appearance. Here’s some of our favorite porch toad poses.

Steve captured a video of the porch toad on a hunt, though not successful on video. He hangs out most nights under the outdoor light.

Here’s our biggest toad simply breathing. He’s a great looking porch toad! We have decided to call him Gord. Or Gordie.
