I’ve been a supporter of the non-profit organization Preemptive Love Coalition for a number of years. I appreciate the work they do with refugees in Syria and Iraq. I valued the work they were a part of repairing hearts of children in these war torn countries. I also feel that the approaches we (the collective we, Americans, Christians, the world) have taken to creating lasting peace in the world over my lifetime have not been working. I feel in my bones that we cannot bomb our way to peace. Killing people does not show people that killing people is wrong. I don’t think I have all the answers. I don’t think that Preemptive Love has all the answers. But, I appreciate the community around them that is trying to find a different way.
This September, they are challenging their community to raise funds for Preemptive Love to expand their work and to share these ideas about waging peace with a larger audience through a Move for Peace challenge. I have committed to walking 50 miles in September, which for me will be more than I’ve done in a single month for the last year. I also set a goal of raising $350 this month for the cause. If you would like to support me in this adventure, I would be so grateful.
Tilda is loving this challenge! We usually walk about a half mile or so with Duke at basset pace, then we leave him at home and Tilda and I do another 2 miles roughly. Hopefully by the end of the month we’ll be able to go 3 miles with greater ease. I won’t post about this daily here on the blog, but I will update at the end of the challenge and let you know how I’ve done!
