Pileated Woodpeckers show up

December 26, 2020 Elizabeth

Yesterday, I got the coolest Christmas gift. Steve & I went out to refill the bird feeders in the snow. When we got back inside, Steve said, oh! A big bird just swooped in and scared everyone off. So, I went looking and spotted a pileated woodpecker on a tree just behind our red shed. Then, on a cluster of maple trees right at the treeline we spotted 2 more chasing each other around the trunks. Got to spend over 30 minutes just watching these 3 birds, hoping they were gonna come in closer for a peanut. They never did come close enough to pick up a peanut or for me to get a camera shot from inside but I loved watching them for so long in my yard. It made me so happy! I love watching all the birds, but am totally partial to the woodpeckers of all sizes. They are so interesting to learn about.
