A Safer Home & Yard

December 3, 2013 Elizabeth

We had this HUGE maple tree right by our house. There was a limb that hovered ominously over our house. We’d lay in bed at night and see the shadow of the limb on the wall of our room, knowing that if it came crashing down it would fall right on us.  It made it impossible to lay in bed and really enjoy a good storm.  So, we finally got some quotes and had the tree taken down.

The guys from Trees-R-Us in Vassar, Michigan came out and removed the tree, ground the stump and also 2 other stumps we have. They left the wood, we have a friend that can use that and we had them leave the wood chips for a little trail project I have in mind later in the year.

We feel so much safer without this tree looming over our house. I was a little worried about how this might impact our bird populations, especially the woodpeckers, but it really had no impact. It changed their patterns a bit as this was a landing zone. We’ll have to wait until this summer to see if it has any impact on nesting patterns.  I’d like to plant some shrubs in this area that would give the birds cover without causing damage to our home.

Here are a few photos from removal day.

They had to drive carefully across our front yard as that is where the septic field is. They were very careful and left no mess in our yard or the neighbor’s yard. They did a great job of not invading the neighbor’s yard.

They had to take it down limb by limb. It was interesting to watch. It took them the entire day and they had to come back the following day to do the stump grinding.

We were really pleased with their work. If you are in the area and looking for tree removal, give a call to Craig @ Trees-R-Us at 989-823-4149.
