A 2nd nest of American Robins

A 2nd nest of American Robins

May 23, 2024 Elizabeth

The nest I posted about previously, is still going. It has 2 eggs in it as of 5/22/2024 and the parents have been attentive. We have a nest cam on it. We’ll be calling that nest the “Kennel Nest”.

We were somewhat surprised when robins started trying to build a nest on our porch light again with this one started. Last year a pair of robins successfully fledged a nest from this location. They built it last year while we were out of town for the weekend. This year we were home and they were trying to build one. Steve kept cleaning the light off as fast as she could bring things hoping she’d give up and find a new spot. He spent a whole day clearing the light as soon as she would leave a single twig. But, when she came back and started again the next day, he gave in and has let her build the nest on the lamp post. But, she’s going to have to put up with the nest cam we put up. We’ll be keeping an eye on these little ones.

Here’s a compilation video of the day they built the nest. You can see it start out with hardly anything and it’s nearly finished by the end of the day.
