Pileated Woodpecker Returns

April 11, 2021 Elizabeth

Exciting birdwatching day from the house. The pileated woodpecker came back! I was able to finally get some decent pics of him? I am so excited about getting the photographs I now need to learn more about the differences between male/female!

Here’s my best pics from his visit.

I also saw this Hairy Woodpecker. I’ve had a lot of downy woodpeckers on the Bird Photo Booth, but not so many of these guys. They are around everyday but a little more stealthy and prefer suet feeders over all others. You can tell the difference from the downy by size, tail feathers (outside ones are white), and the beak length in relation to the head.

We also spotted a bluebird today, our first one this year, we get them very infrequently, but missed out on photographing him.

Good birding day!
