I’ve seen the pileated woodpecker around a number of times in the last few years. They aren’t an everyday visitor, but we hear them and see them occasionally. I’ve never been able to photograph them and bad news, I didn’t capture them with the Bird Photo Booth today. These are admittedly, awful pics, but I write this for me, and I share both my successes and my failures.
When my husband told me he was here, he was closer and I grabbed my camera, opened the door, and that caused him to fly off a bit. He was out of range of my camera really at that point. But I took one shot of him up the tree and tried to zoom in, but my camera was set on auto and it kept going out of focus.
I took a couple more with varying degrees of success as you can see.
He flew over the house and I thought I could catch him on his favorite feeder in the front yard, the double suet feeder. Sure enough he was on there, but just as I got the blinds open in the room where I have the best shot, he flew off again! All I got was this one from the backside of the feeder.
I’ve gotta refill the feeders and hopefully he’ll be back. He had a challenging time getting his suet from here.
BONUS Bird – When I pulled the images of the pileated woodpecker from my camera, I found this picture of a mourning dove. I rarely photograph them, so I thought I’d share this one here, too.
